What do you do when Jack Nicholson asks out your girlfriend, right in front of you? Call up David Spade.

In an interview with Details, Spade talked about losing his girlfriend to Nicholson and being compared to Chris Farley.

“Nicholson asked Lara Flynn Boyle out in front of me while we were all somoking a doob somewhere,” the actor said of his then girlfriend. “She got mad because I didn’t stick up for her. I said, ‘I’ve been in this town long enough to know when I’m outranked. You’re either gonna go out with him or you’re not.’ She goes, ‘No way. He’s worse than Trump!’ The funniest part was, they got caught in a car crash, and she crawled out of the sunroof and yelled, ‘I have a boyfriend! I can’t be here!’ Like, ‘Oh, now I’m your boyfriend?’ I got a call from the National Enquirer. That’s how I found out. She and I didn’t talk to much after that,” Spade recalled.

The comedian was asked if he ever rewatches his film Tommy Boy, which he stars in with Farley. “I haven’t watched it in probably ten years. It is a little hard. There’s an undercurrent of sadness,” Spade said. “Chris’ stuff is so funny, but there’s not enough of it. People still give me s*** about him: ‘I wish you had died instead of Chris Farley.’ That’s on Twitter almost every day. Or ‘You’re nothing without Chris.’ Which is okay, but I don’t like the assumption that I think I was in the same league as Chris. I was not. He was his own superstar,” Spade said of his longtime friend.

Spade can next be seen in Adam Sandler’s Netflix movie The Do Over which co-stars Paula Patton.
