Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell are a match made in Oscar heaven.
Lawrence and Russell are no strangers to working together. Lawrence has starred in Russell’s two most recent films, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, both of which were nominated for Academy Awards. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Lawrence discussed her third movie with Russell, Joy, which focuses on the creator of the Miracle Mop.
In the interview Lawrence shared that Russell called her at 4am to offer her the role, “He said, ‘Do you want to play the part of the woman who invented The Miracle Mop?’” Of course, there was no way she could refuse Russell. “I’ve gotten a lot of middle-of-the-night phone calls from David,” Lawrence said.
Lawrence is in awe and a tad scared of the way Russell’s film’s work. “It’s fascinating and terrifying working for him because he’s a mad scientist genius. He’s inspired by anything. I always see the wide eyes of people who’ve never worked with him before. I tell them, ‘You have to let go of all your s—t. You are the paint. He’s the paintbrush and the canvas,’” Lawrence says.
Although Lawrence spent a lot of time praising Russell, there was one part of the Joy experience she could have lived without. “The was literally eight feet of snow outside,” Lawrence recalled. The movie was filmed last winter in Boston. “I still have Snowst Traumatic Stress. I feel like I’m in Game of Thrones, running around going, ‘Winter is coming again!,’”
Joy will be hitting theaters on Christmas Day, just in time for the Oscar race. The film includes Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper, Lawrence’s Silver Linings and American Hustle co-stars. Also in the film, Elisabeth Rohm, Isabella Rossellini, Virginia Madsen, Diane Ladd, Dascha Polanco, and Edgar Ramirez. Be sure to check out the film’s trailer.
