After fulfilling the first part of "six seasons and a movie," Community has officially ended its television run.

In an interview with Metro Weekly, Joel McHale confirmed that Community will not be returning for a seventh season. He explained that all of the actors' contracts ended after six years, and now their stock has risen to the point where they're too expensive for Yahoo to sign on again.

"So you’re not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore," he said. "There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show."

McHale did confirm that Yahoo was interested in another season, though. After years of being mistreated by NBC, Community finally found a network that wanted to keep it going for years and years, but unfortunately that's not going to happen. Maybe that's for the best, as it prevents Community from running into the ground and continuing on after losing so many cast members. It also keeps the prophecy of "six seasons and a movie" intact.

Speaking of which, what about the movie? It seems like it's inevitable, although it probably won't happen right away. According to Entertainment Weekly, Yahoo was interested in making the movie immediately after the Season 6 finale, but showrunner Dan Harmon wanted more time.

"I told Yahoo, ‘I can’t think about writing a movie until I miss Community,’” he said.

Most of the cast has expressed interest in the movie, so it's just a question of if Yahoo and Dan Harmon can get everyone to find time in their schedule now that everyone has moved on to other projects.
