Luther, President Obama’s angry translator was happy to share the story of how he ended up behind the president “translating” his frustration at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Keegan-Michael Key visited Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Friday and discussed what it was like to meet and perform with the president. The comedian also talked about the end of his Comedy Central series Key and Peele
“We figured we we’re going to go the British route. You know what I mean? Where the do like three or four seasons of everything and then they go, ‘We’re done. We’re bloody well done,’” Key said of ending Key and Peele. “We’ve done everything we’ve tried to do. We’ve done it. And we’re done. We’re bloody well done,” Key continues, in a British accent.
Fallon and Key segued into conversation about a popular character from Key’s series, Luther, President Obama’s angry translator. As it turns out President Obama is a fan of the series and Key’s character, Luther. He enjoys the character so much that Key was invited to perform the character at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. “The second greatest day of my life, because I love my wife,” he said. Key goes on to talk about the president hugging him, his fear of being mistaken as trying to assault the president, and the president’s inability to hold himself together during rehearsal.
Here is the clip of President Obama and Luther at the Correspondents’ Dinner. It’s just as hilarious as you would expect.
It was announced in July that this season would be the last of Key and Peele.
