Former star quarterback and franchise player Michael Vick has become nothing more than a backup desperate for a job. Two games into the preseason, he has finally found one with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He got the tryout with Pittsburgh because of his relationship with head coach Mike Tomlin. With starter Ben Roethlisberger’s penchant for injury, Vick will be one of the most important backups in the league.

We all know Michael Vick’s story. He went to prison on the charge of dogfighting conspiracy. He threw away a promising career.

Since he was released, he has been predominantly mediocre. These last two seasons have proven he is no longer starter material.

He was hoping for this type of opportunity. He lucked out.

The Steelers’ risk with Vick is minimal, with just a one-year deal. The deal speaks to a lack of confidence. Vick needs to earn some back.
