Muppets co-executive producer Bill Prady is opening up about Kermit and Miss Piggy’s recent split, saying that it just made sense that they break up due to the way they’ve been interacting recently.

As we previously reported, the longtime couple confirmed their split during the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this month.

"One of the places it came from is Eric Jacobson [Piggy] and Steve Whitmire [Kermit] have done press with them for the past however many years and they always get asked about their relationship," Prady told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Because there has been no ongoing place to tell that story, they've been caught in this, 'Well, it's complicated' kind of place,” he continued.

He went on to say he realized they should split after hearing an interview, recalling “it sounds like they broke up. They're being really evasive,” adding, "It seemed like that couple that was putting up a public face but there was something going on."

Prady also hinted that a paparazzo shot their break-up in public, which happened about a “year or so ago.”

The Muppets revival will premiere Sept. 22 at 8pm on ABC.
