Dick Wolf is going to have four shows on NBC this season, so the network and the prolific producer has decided to plan a mega crossover event that will feature all four.
During the Television Critics Association press tour today, Wolf revealed plans to bring the characters from Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Law & Order: SVU and the freshman series Chicago Med into one story. The hope, of course, is boost ratings in February.
“The crossovers are incredible ratings engines for us,” Wolf said, reports TheWrap. “What we can’t do is have them become commonplace. We have an agreement. We’ll do three this season, but they won’t do all the shows.”
While this sounds exciting, anyone hoping for news on the rumored Law & Order limited series will be disappointed. Wolf didn’t have much to say about it.
Most of the original L&O stars want to come back, but they are busy with other projects, Wolf said, reports Deadline. “I would love to do it if we can make it work,” he added.
Med was originally supposed to be a midseason show, but was bumped up to this fall after Heartbreaker had to be delayed. That show, which is also a media drama, had to change its production schedule due to star Melissa George’s pregnancy.
The Med cast includes Yaya Dacosta, original L&O star S. Epatha Merkerson, Oliver Pratt, Colin Donnell, Brian Tee and Nick Gehlfuss.
