The New England Patriots have reportedly released No. 3 quarterback Matt Flynn on Monday.
ESPN reported that sources have said the Pats informed Flynn that he would be released and the team would be signing former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Ryan Lindley.
Flynn was signed to a one-year deal in June and was expected to be the No. 3 backup behind Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo, a role Lindley will likely assume now.
The 30-year-old Flynn had stints with the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills, before he signed with New England, according to Pro-Football- Reference.com.
His first NFL start was with the Packers in game against New England. In for the injured Aaron Rodgers, Flynn threw for three touchdown passes, however, one pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. The Pats ended up winning the game 31-27. He redeemed himself in the final game of the season against the Detroit Lions in which he threw for 480 yards and 6 touchdowns in the 45-41 victory.
Recently, he’s been dealing with a hamstring injury and was on the Pats active/non-injury football list.
