Free-agent center Jarret Stoll signed with the New York Rangers on Monday.

According to the New York Post, Stoll signed a one-year, $800,000 deal with the Rangers. The deal comes just months after he pleaded guilty in a felony cocaine case. In June Stoll pleaded guilty to two reduced misdemeanor charges in the cocaine case which was a result of his arrest in April in Las Vegas. He was sentenced to 32 hours of community service and will not face any discipline from the NHL for his Las Vegas arrest.

A Rangers spokesman said that the deal is a standard player deal and that there are no issues going forward.

Stoll was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 2002. He spent the past seven seasons with the Los Angeles Kings. Last season Stoll had six goals and 17 points in 73 games, according to NHL.com. In his 12 year career he has 140 goals and 379 points in 792 regular-season games. In the playoffs he has 10 goals and 26 points in 93 games.

The Rangers have about $200,000 in salary-cap space after signing Stoll. Stoll will likely compete against Oscar Lindberg for the third-line center position.
