Willie Nelson is a legend in country music and according to the parents of a young girl his music can also help save lives.
Four-year-old Ava Adams was born premature and was constantly in and out of surgeries for the first 15 months of her life. Her parents, Brittany and Jamison Adams, spoke to Channel 10 in Amarillo, Texas and said that it was music that helped Ava get better.
"Any time she was having a bad day, you could play Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash or Ray Price and her stats would come up, she would start doing better just almost immediately,” explained Jamison.
Ava started to gravitate towards Nelson's music specifically. Back in 2014 during the holiday season the couple got tickets to an upcoming Nelson concert in New Mexico but it was canceled due to weather. The couple is now waiting for another chance to see Nelson live in a venue that would be able to accommodate Ava and her personal needs.
Ava's Mom wanted to give thanks to the country legend and share her daughter's story. "You have no clue how many times you’ve actually saved our daughter’s life. There were times where her heart rate was incredibly low. She was … cardiac, she was not doing well. She spent so long in there and it was such a long road, but actually just playing that music for her really, really did change and save her life.”
Nelson was recently honored with the Library of Congress’ Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
