Welcome to Project Runway Season 14!
The first episode of Project Runway each season is the get to know the designers and their style challenge. This season, hosts Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum met the new designers at Madison Square Garden. Yards of fabric were scattered around the stadium. The designers had three minutes to pick four piece of fabric for their look. This week’s challenge was to create a look that showed the judges who the contestants were as a designer. They had one day to create their design.

So what did the designers create?
Blake: used a mixed color textile that had triangles of red, pink, green, lilac, and purple to make a halter dress with a high to low skirt, a deep V front, and no back. The inside of the long part of the skirt was bright yellow. The sides were gathered together at the hips.
Amanda: used a baby blue colored textile to create a knee length skirt with a top that had a V neck that uses an orange and blue textile.
Laurie: created an strapless knock-out red dress. The hem slants down diagonally starting at the top of the right thigh and finishing at the left knee.
Hanmiao: created a dress and matching vest out of yellow textile with matching yellow and orange plaid. The dress and vest looked like a bag, not showing off any of the model’s figure.
Swapnil: created a simple knee length blue skirt. The top was royal blue, white, black, and light blue. The top looked as if delicate strips of fabric had been sewn and interwoven together.
Duncan: created a floor length draped dress out of a pink colored silk, that ended up looking more like a toga.
Edmond: created a strapless black dress that was tight fitting that ended around mid thigh. The train attached to the dress had a pop of color with lime green on the inside. The train flowed nicely, giving the dress its wow factor.
Merline: created a sunburnt orange top and knee length skirt. The look had a very structural aspect to it.
Lindsey: created a casual sundress with a flower print that any girl in their 20’s would want to wear.
David: created an oversized long sleeve maxi dress with two completely different prints. The dress had pockets and a leg slit up to the knee.
Joseph: created a knee length lilac skirt with a floral print crop top. The skirt was well fit.
Kelly: created a bold dress with a brown, green, and yellow print. The skirt had two layers, and the top had 3 straps.
Jake: created a strapless mid thigh length dress. The textile had a pink, brown, yellow, red, and gold stripes, which looked like a candy wrapper.
Gabrielle: created a flowing calf length gray dress with a halter neck and open back.
Candice: created a one shoulder knee length dress using white and black striped textile with triangles of black at the hips.
Ashley: created a floor length skirt using a yellow and white floral print. The crop top was white with holes (there was a nude fabric underneath) and triangular open back.
