This week’s challenge was to put a modern twist on a classic fashion look. Tim Gunn gave examples of fashion classics such as the pencil skirt, the wrap dress, and the trench coat. The challenge is inspired by Mary Kay’s New York inspired new city modern make-up line. Mary Kay make-up artists gave the designers make-up consultations as part of sponsoring the challenge. In addition to winning immunity, the winner will receive $5,000 and their look featured in a Mary Kay editorial for an upcoming issue of Marie Claire magazine.

The designers had the luxury of sketching their looks while looking over the Manhattan skyline from across the river. The designers finally got their first trip to Mood Fabrics for the season. The designers had 6 hours to complete their look.

Amanda created a wrap dress in a black and white print that looked like a maternity dress.

Ashley created a unoriginal gray and white top and skirt.

Blake created a dark blue dress with a medium blue parachute attached to her hips and back.

Candice created stellar fitted black leather dress accompanied by a white with black stripes coat.

Edmond created an architecture top using an intricate black and white print with a black mini skirt. He used the print well. If he had not, it would have looked like a hot mess.

Gabrielle created black tent coat with short sleeves and white sheath dress with a ragged hem.

Jake created a modern spin on the 80s jersey dress creating sparkle a burgundy dress with a huge number on it.

Joseph created a black pencil skirt with peplum top.

Kelly created an edgy t-shirt using white textiles and white mesh paired with black skinny jeans.

Laurie created a white top with a million bows on the front and a pencil skirt with the slit on the front using a print textile.

Lindsey created a long pencil shirt and matching crop top in a gray print with a oversized red blazer.

Merline created a bronze pencil skirt, cream top, and a detailed architecture black jacket.

Swapnil created a modern twist on the little black dress. The front of the dress has several layers of large ruffles which is balanced with an open back.
