Selena Gomez is over her split from Justin Bieber, although she acknowledges that the rest of the world may not be. She opened up about it in a new interview, in addition to the fact that she has taken off her purity ring she once wore as a teen.
Gomez and Bieber had an off-again, on-again relationship when they were dating – like a lot of teenagers do – except they were living it in the public eye. They split for good in 2014 after dating for the better part of three years.
“It's difficult for people to separate us," she told the UK’s Sunday Times. "The Internet wants to freeze this moment in time and constantly repeat it."
The “The Heart Wants What It Wants” singer, 21, also talked about the media’s fixation on them, saying, “I didn't think I was doing anything bad by falling in love.”
"There's such an emphasis on people being the perfect thing and then destroying them because it's good press,” she continued. “Also throw in the fact that you are a teenager — it makes it more difficult."
As for the purity ring she used to wear, Gomez said she’s “not embarrassed” about having it or taking it off, saying she was 13 when she put it on and she has since realized it wasn’t a right fit for her.
“I respect so much what it represented, but it isn't for everyone,” she said. She dated Nick Jonas at the same time he wore his, which he no longer wears either.
