Shannen Doherty has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and it’s in a very unconventional way. The diagnosis became public when she sued her business manager, blaming her for having to wait so long to find out she had it due to the mishandling of her finances.
The former 90210 star is suing the firm Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson, claiming in a lawsuit obtained by TMZ that the firm let her medical insurance lapse and the actress had to wait nearly a year to see her doctors again.
She said when she went back to the doctor in March, she found out she had “invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node."
The severity of the cancer, she claims, is due to the firm’s failure to take action on the insurance invoice. In that period of time in 2014 when her insurance wasn’t valid, the cancer spread.
Doherty claims she wouldn’t have to undergo surgery for a mastectomy or go through chemotherapy if her cancer was caught earlier.
Fox News reports Doherty's husband, Kurt Iswarienko, is also suing the firm for mishandling of the couple's money.
A rep for the firm has replied, saying in a statement, “Tanner Mainstain is saddened to learn that Ms. Doherty is suffering from cancer and wishes her a full recovery. However, the claim that Tanner Mainstain caused her to be uninsured, prevented her from seeking medical care, or somehow contributed to her cancer is patently false."
