Follow the money. That’s the message in Showtime’s newest drama, Billions, which stars Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis.
The series was written by financial journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin and Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Rounders, Ocean’s Thirteen). It features Giamatti as U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades, who is investigating hot shot hedge fund king Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Lewis).
This does mark Lewis’ return to Showtime following his Emmy-winning stint on Homeland. Lewis is up for another Emmy thanks to his performance in PBS’ Wolf Hall.
As for Giamatti, he was recently seen in Madame Bovary, San Andreas and Love & Mercy. He’s also in Straight Outta Compton, since he seems to find time to be in nearly everything.
Billions also features Malin Akerman, David Constable, Maggie Siff, Toby Leonard Moore and Kelly AuCoin. The 12-episode series starts on Jan. 17 at 10 p.m.
