Just because he is switching to CBS doesn’t mean that Stephen Colbert is leaving political coverage behind completely. His first Late Show episode next month will even include a 2016 presidential candidate: former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
Colbert made the announcement on Twitter, joking that he does enough episodes a year to fit in the remaining Republican candidates for President. “My first GOP candidate! Luckily I do 200 shows a year, so I think I can fit them all,” Colbert wrote.
In reality, there are only 17 Republican candidates, but that still feels like way too much. Fox News even had to host two debates last week.
Colbert has already announced that his first Late Show guest will be actor George Clooney, who doesn’t actually have anything specific to promote.
Also during CBS’ Television Critics Association press tour panel on Monday, Colbert announced that rapper Kendrick Lamar will be his first musical guest. Lamar was also the last performer on The Colbert Report.
“My last musical guest [on The Colbert Report] was Kendrick Lamar, and I would love for him to be my first musical guest. In fact he will be my first musical guest,” Colbert said, reports TheWrap.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert premieres on Sept. 8.
