Who’s taking the bodies?
This week’s episode begins right where we left off, with Stiles lunging at Theo, after Theo tells him that he knows about Donovan's death. Theo explains that he wasn't following Stiles, he just happened to be at the library, but he claims to have no idea who took the body. As police sirens approach, Theo convinces Stiles to take the body with them in order to figure out who has been stealing the other Chimera bodies. They take the body the animal clinic, telling Scott that is was one of The Dread Doctors that killed him, not Theo. Scott and Stiles leave the clinic after receiving a call from Liam, leaving Theo alone with the body. Soon after, one of The Dread Doctors make an appearance at the clinic. Theo tells it/ him, not quite sure which yet, that he is trying to figure out who is taking the bodies, but it turns out that The Dread Doctors already know, but they have failed to share that particular bit of information. Though Theo’s relationship with The Dread Doctors is still a mystery, the omission of information is definitely a foreshadowing of issues in their relationship to come.
Your condition improves
Liam suspects that Hayden is a Chimera after her eyes change color under the glow sticks. In order to explain to her/ make her believe that the supernatural does exist, he partially transforms in a werewolf in front of her. Liam, a little note for the future; going all werewolf and growling in a girl’s face will get you punched. Next time, showcasing just the claws or the glowing eyes is more than enough. After punching him, Hayden drives off in a panic, but her car stalls in the middle of the road. The Dread Doctors voices begin to play on the radio saying, “your condition improves,” and then the wounds she received from punching Liam heal miraculously, solidifying that she is a Chimera. The Dread Doctors menacingly walk towards her, but Liam shows up in the nick of time to rescue her. Once at her home, Hayden hides in the bathroom until Scott and Stiles arrive. When she emerges, she reveals glowing eyes and a mouth full of canines. They know that The Dread Doctors are coming for Hayden, so Scott and Stiles come up with a plan to hide her at the school, which has a similar electric field to Eichen House. Their plan is to disrupt the electrical frequency in order to try and capture one of The Dread Doctors.
The fox wants out!
All season long, the Kitsune (fox) inside Kira has been fighting to come out, at times succeeding. Kira’s mother noticed this change, so she attacks Kira in order to coax the Kitsune into showing itself. As the fight escalates, the Kitsune finally emerges with red eyes, consuming Kira in red flames. Kira almost kills her mother, only stopping because her father shocks her, jarring her back into her body. Kira knows that something is going on with her, so she tells Scott that she cannot help the pack until she figures it out because she knows that she's a liability. Kira’s mother attempts to use acupuncture to realign Kira’s energy, but it seems to fail, as once her mother leaves the room, Kira vanishes, leaving the number 115 on the headboard.
The Bait
Scott, Lydia, Malia, and Parish accompany Liam and Hayden to the school. Though they are trying to protect Hayden, they are also using her as bait in order to catch The Dread Doctors. Liam is not aware of the latter part of the plan. Though he is angry when he finds out, he also knows it is necessary. They plant transmitters around the school, but they are no match for The Dread Doctors who march right in. What makes the Dread Doctors so formidable is their ability to use hallucinations to mask themselves while also making their victims immobile. Their victims become completely immersed in the hallucination, feeling every ounce of pain, thus perceiving it as real. When The Dread Doctors arrive, Malia is caught in traps that emerge through the concrete. Scott is stabbed by Kira, who then tries to strangle him while saying, “I am the messenger of death.” Lydia then has a hallucination of Tracy, the dead Chimera, pulling out her tongue, and leaving her bleeding on the floor. The scenes are executed very well. Not only are the characters fooled into thinking the hallucinations are real, the viewers are too. Scott only wakes up when Mason scratches him, jolting him out of the illusion. They all wake up to find Hayden and Liam gone.
Building a Bond
As the rest of the pack heads to the school, Stiles joins Theo at the clinic for a stakeout. They plant a camera and watch from the car, to see if anyone attempts to steal the body. Stiles clearly dislikes and mistrusts Theo, so Theo uses this opportunity to bond with Stiles. Theo shares the story of how his sister passed; she fell into a creek, and got hypothermia due to the freezing water. Theo laments that he wishes he could have saved her. However, in a flashback, we see that Theo made no attempts whatsoever to help her, though she was alive and pleading for his help. Theo tells Stiles the story in order to build some kind of connection with him, saying that Stiles reminds him of her. Theo is connecting the two, Stiles and his sister; therefore, Stiles should be very worried. It is ironic that in the first episode of this season, Theo is standing by the creek feeling immense, perceptible, grief. It will be interesting to know the rest of that story. Though Theo keeps insisting that the murder of the Chimera was self-defense, Stiles is skeptical. Theo finally gets Stiles to confess that he felt good when he realized that Donovan was dead. That is why he cannot tell Scott, because he'll lose his best friend. Not only did he have a hand in Donovan’s death, he liked it, a feeling that seems to scare Stiles.
Chimeras
Sheriff Stilinski and Ms. McCall are working together to understand what connects all the Chimeras. The Sheriff figures that since they are Dread Doctors, not Dread Scientists, there must be a medical condition that links all the victims. After some research, they discover that the victims are all linked medically because they are each genetic Chimeras to begin with: All of them had accidents where they required a body part from another human being.
Parish
When The Dread Doctors arrived, Parish had hallucinations of him and Lydia kissing, but as the passion increased, she transformed into a burn victim. Seriously. Parish then headed to the animal clinic, and in the middle of Theo and Stiles’ conversation, he attacks them, first punching Theo in the face, and then flipping Stiles’ car, leaving it to burn with Stiles in it. RIP Roscoe, I hope you make a comeback buddy. Parish grabs the Chimera body and leaves. After Parish steals the body, Theo recovers and saves Stiles from the overthrown car. I've been curious as to what/who Parish is. I’m excited by the direction that they are taking his character. It would have been boring to have made him be a predictable, simply likable, hero.
Coming Up
Hayden and Liam have been taken by The Dread Doctors. At the end of the episode, we see Hayden on a hospital gurney, with The Dread Doctors about to perform some type of surgery on her, whilst Liam is chained on the floor. The Dread Doctors had said that her condition was improving, so they are completing her transformation. The pack seems to be falling apart. Liam might be the next person to distance himself from Scott as it is Scott's decision that got both him and Hayden captured. Meanwhile, Mason, or as I like to call him, Stiles 2.0, has found another Chimera. In the final scene of the episode, Melissa McCall arrives home to find a dead body pinned to her kitchen table, with a knife that resembles Kira’s jutting out of her body.
Man oh man! That was a lot to digest. This is the Teen Wolf I love: Action packed, fast paced, gruesome, and utterly twisted to the point where I am not quite sure what I just watched. I can’t be the only one taken aback by the scene with Parish and Lydia. I’ll be scarred by that all week.
There is a full moon on the way, so things are about get a little crazier. See you next week!
