While no other runner can beat Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt, it turns out that a cameraman on a scooter can. While celebrating his latest victory in Beijing, Bolt collided with a cameraman, making everyone in Jamaica hold their breath.
Bolt easily beat his rival, Justin Gatlin of the U.S., during the 200 meter sprint at the world track and field championships in Beijing on the same track he ran during the 2008 Summer Olympics. As The Guardian notes, it was his fourth consecutive world championship in the event. He came in with a time of just 19.55 seconds, the 10th fastest ever.
While celebrating the win though, Bolt ran into a cameraman on a hands-free scooter, who lost his balance. Bolt got up quickly, but was clearly shaken afterwards.
“The rumor I’m trying to start right now is that Justin Gatlin paid him off, so that’s what I’m going with,” Bolt joked during a news conference, notes The New York Times. Gatlin was sitting right next to him.
Bolt said he was fine and that the 200m event is really important to him.
“There was a never a doubt that I was going to win this one,” he told the media. “Justin Gatlin was there: ‘Oh, he is going to be ready.’ That is why I really celebrated as much as I did. I am No. 1.”
