Vanessa Hudgens has revealed her father, Greg Hudgens, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. She spoke about it during an emotional speech at an event to benefit the charity The Circle of Hope, which helps cancer survivors.
Hudgens told the crowd at the Industry Dance Awards & Cancer Benefit Show held at Avalon in Hollywood Wednesday, where she accepted the award for Breakthrough Performer for her role in Broadway’s Gigi.
She started off by saying her boyfriend, Austin Butler, “lost his mom, Lori, to cancer” last year. She added, “and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being,” E! Online reports.
Hudgens dedicated her award to Butler’s mom and her own father, as well as “all the families out there who are struggling with this, because it really takes a strong person and a strong family to be able to help those out who are going through this."
Us Weekly notes Hudgens hinted her father was going through health issues on Instagram three weeks ago, writing, "My daddy and I. Please pray for his healing!!! The more prayers the better."
