A young journalist and her cameraman were killed this morning when a shooting broke out during a live report for local CBS affiliate Virginia station WDBJ7. Police are currently investigating the incident.

WDBJ7 confirmed that photographer Adam Ward, 27, and reporter Alison Parker, 24, were killed during the shooting, which took place around 6:45 a.m. They were reporting from Bridgewater Plaza.

Both Parker and Ward grew up in the central Virginia area that WDBJ7 covers. Parker was from Martinsville and studied at Patrick Henry Community College and James Madison University. Ward was a graduate from Salem High School and Virginia Tech.

WDBJ7 said that law enforcement is already at the scene, with deputies from Franklin County and Bedford County responding.

“It is with extreme sadness that we report WDBJ7's Alison Parker and Adam Ward were killed in an attack this morning,” the network wrote on Twitter.

The network also posted a picture of Ward and Parker, writing “We love you, Alison and Adam.”
