Just like everyone else in America, Colin Jost has an opinion on Donald Trump.
The Saturday Night Live Weekend Update anchor stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers last night to promote his film Staten Island Summer. Meyers, a one time anchor of Weekend Update asked Jost, “Are there news stories that you’ve been bummed out that you missed [over the summer hiatus]?” Jost told Meyers, “Well there is a man that is running for president now...” “Scott Walker,” Meyers jumped in. Jost agreed,“Scott Walker. And everyone is talking about this Scott Walker.”
Jost admitted he and Meyers were not talking about the Wisconsin governor, and instead talking about Donald Trump, one of many on a never-ending list of GOP presidential candidates. “Donald Trump, here’s the thing, I have a real affinity for Donald Trump,” Jost said. “I grew up in New York and I feel like when you grow up in New York on some level you love Donald Trump. I mean even when you’re like ‘Ahh I hate Trump,’ you love him. He’s like the New York Post. If you don’t love the New York Post why do you live in New York City,” Jost explained.
Meyers and Jost discussed Trump’s polarizing personality. Jost told Meyers, “People are upset at Trump because he is a very polarizing guy, but I don’t think that is a bad thing. I feel like it’s good. There are other good examples of that. I feel like he is a lot like Bane from Batman. They both have great voices. They both dress interestingly, you know?”
Since announcing his bid for the presidency Trump has been a controversial figure. Everyone from America Ferrera to Pitbull to Salma Hayek to Alec Baldwin have shared their thoughts on Trump. Trump has expressed his controversial views on topics ranging from immigration to war heros.
