Last week, actress and avid social media user Alyssa Milano shared a photo of her breastfeeding her daughter Elizabeth on Facebook. The photo drew outrage from some, but shrugged off the criticism.
Milano shared the photo to mark Elizabella's first birthday. She was born on Sept. 4, 2014.
“Happy Birthday, my beautiful Elizabella. You've taught me that my heart has no end. You were the missing piece to my soul. Thank you for choosing me,” she wrote in the caption.
Most of the comments on the photo on Facebook are positive, with many commenting about how sweet the photo is and how precious her little baby is. But Milano received enough complaints about it that Entertainment Tonight had to ask her if she had a response.
“I don't care,” the former Charmed star said. “I'm going to keep breastfeeding, maybe even until [Elizabella is] 6!”
She later said that it was “crazy” how different the response was compared to the response to Miley Cyrus flashing the audience at the MTV Video Music Awards.
“Everyone's fine with her nipples being out,” she told ET. “I think people are more comfortable sexualizing breasts than relating them to what they were made for, which is feeding another human.”
Milano and her husband, David Bugliari, are also the parents of 4-year-old Milo. The actress was on ABC’s Mistresses, but she left the show after the second season because the network moved production to Vancouver.
