Every show needs a kooky character or two. The Mindy Project has a collection, including Beverly “Something.”
Beth Grant plays Beverly on the Mindy Kaling created show, The Mindy Project. Her character is eccentric and has an ambiguous past, but she always has us laughing.
Grant’s resume is diverse, it includes roles in No Country for Old Men, Coach, King of the Hill, and Speed. She also appeared in two episodes of The Office. Grant told Entertainment Weekly the reason she loves playing Beverly is because you never know what she will say or do.
One running gag Grant loves is that Beverly may not be Beverly. “We had a clinic at the prison and the prisoner came by and said ‘Susan Johnson’ and I said, ‘I don’t know any Susan Johnson and I’ve never been to Tuscon,’” Grant began. She recalled another episode in which Mindy was dating a police officer named Charlie (Tim Daly). “Charlie says ‘Susan Johnson’ and I said ‘No… I’m Beverly… something.’ So I like that, that she’s obviously been in prison,” Grant said.
Grant’s goal for Beverly in The Mindy Project season 4 is for Beverly to have a relationship, she wants to start the hashtag #GetBeverlyLaid.
Season 4 of The Mindy Project airs Tuesdays on Hulu.
