New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall shared his opinions about the role he believes race plays in his sport during an episode of Showtime’s Inside the NFL.
During a panel discussion on Tuesday’s episode, Marshall spoke about the league’s decision to overturn Tom Brady’s suspension and said that race had something to do with it.
“White players, specifically at the quarterback position, are treated differently,” he said.
The 31-year-old wide out added that many black players have said that they feel they are not treated the same as their white counterparts.
NJ.com noted that Marshall then brought Eagles head coach Chip Kelly into the conversation and weighed in about why some of his former players have mentioned race as a reason for the decision to get rid of them.
"I think it's more of a cultural thing," Marshall opined. "You've got some young guys from some rough places in the world. And Chip Kelly seems to be a coach that loves structure, and it has to be his way. And I really believe his way may be a winning way—so I'm on that side."
Marshall, who spent time with the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins and most recently the Chicago Bears, will face Kelly and the Eagles on Sept. 27.
