Caitlyn Jenner played golf with Today Show host Matt Lauer for an interview and the first part of it aired this morning. Lauer did get Jenner to finally comment on the Malibu car crash she was involved in that killed 69-year-old Kim Howe.
Jenner told Lauer that she remembers “very little” about the crash on Pacific Coast Highway on Feb. 7. While investigators found that she didn’t break traffic laws, prosecutors are considering charging her with vehicular manslaughter. If she is convicted, she could face up to a year in jail.
“I remember it happening. That's about it,” Jenner said. “A tragedy like this, you'll never get over it. You just learn to live with it the best you possibly can.”
She called going to jail “the worst case scenario” and suggested that the media would want to see her in a men’s county jail. Jenner said that she could not comment further on the crash because of legal proceedings.
Jenner also expressed excitement for her new life. “I think about my life — and where I'm at in my life right now. What a tremendous experience this is. Hardly nobody gets to live two genders in their life,” she said.
When it comes to criticism of her receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY Awards, Jenner passed the buck to ESPN, saying that he did not ask for it.
“They gave me the award,” she told Lauer. “Did it take a lot of courage to come out? Absolutely. Did I have tremendous respect for Arthur Ashe and that award? Absolutely. And I'm very honored to have them award that to me, not just to me but this entire community. So I'm very pleased the way it turned out.”
Lastly, Jenner said that she has even enjoyed some of the jokes from comedians. She even though that the Halloween costume was a cool idea.
The rest of Lauer’s interview will air tomorrow.
