The people of Chester’s Mill will finally be able to leave the dome. CBS said on Monday that next week’s season finale of Under The Dome will be a series finale.
The show is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, which centers on a Maine town that is mysteriously cut off from the world when a mysterious clear dome covers it. The cast included Dean Norris, Rachelle Lefevre, Mike Vogel and Alexander Koch. Britt Robertson, who went on to star in Tomorrowland, appeared in the first and second seasons.
Under The Dome did kick off an interesting new trend among the broadcast networks after earning stunning ratings for the first season. It eventually led CBS to develop other scripted summer TV shows, including Extant and Zoo. The show was also initially conceived as a mini-series, but the success of season one convinced the network to keep it going.
“Two years ago, Under The Dome broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world.” CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement. “Dome’s event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of Extant and Zoo. We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”
The series finale of Under The Dome airs Thursday, Sept. 10.
