On this week’s episode of Chasing Life, April’s college rival comes to Boston and stirs up trouble, Brenna and Finn attend Junior Ball, and Beth receives some shocking news that could change her life forever.

April, Beth, and Josh share drinks at a bar. April shares concerns about her former college roommate slash frenemy, Ellie visiting Boston due to their on-going rivalry. Later, she is caught off guard when a man at the bar makes a pass at her and asks her out.

Cue opening theme.

Sara is happy that Brenna is happy with Finn. They’re officially together now, but they won’t be going to the school’s Junior Ball later in the week. Enter April, who tries to convince Brenna to attend, then chats with their mother about her upcoming 10K and moving in with Beth. April isn’t ready to move out again, but is ready to have another place. She also tells Sara about being hit on at the bar and how it really set her off. Sara seems to understand.

April meets up with Ellie at The Charles and continues to be in awe of Ellie’s strong social media presence. Ellie notices how much April has changed since college due to having cancer when April tells her about her book.

Later, April visits Dominic and they talk over drinks. April fills him on Ellie. Dominic says he’s considering selling his house now that it’s been damaged, so he can find a new place, maybe even in a new city. April is surprised, but Dominic claims he wants to move on and have a fresh start.

The Carver women prepare for family dinner. Sara’s invited William and April has invited Beth and Josh, so there’ll be extra company. There is palpable tension between Beth and William given the circumstances of Beth and his son, Gabe’s breakup.

April has a meeting with her agent, Calvin. A local publishing company, Book Smart is interested in working with April, but there is a similar memoir about cancer also being targeted to the same demographic. The publishers are leaning toward the other memoir because the author has a high social media following. April finds out it’s Ellie.

Following her meeting with Calvin, April updates Beth about Ellie and her book. She thinks Ellie is trying to compete with her like always. Beth suggests giving Ellie the benefit of the doubt, before the conversation shifts toward her fashion business. While assisting Beth with a spreadsheet, April sees a tweet from Ellie quoting something April said during their conversation the previous day word for word. April makes it her mission to take Ellie down.

Friends from Brenna’s LGBTQ club invite her and Finn to their Junior Ball after-party. Brenna is glad she and Finn aren’t going, but Finn’s never been to a school dance and wants to attend. Hearing this, Brenna agrees to compromise; they’ll be going after all.

Following her publishing spat with Ellie, April returns to Calvin and enlists his help in trying to up the ante with her book plan.

Meanwhile, Beth assists Brenna in finding a dress for Junior Ball and a second run-in with William prompts seconds thoughts about her fashion choices.

April and Calvin show up to a publishing event at The Post without invites, and Calvin promises to work something out, but with no avail. When April spots Dominic, they walk in together. April tries to sneak past security by faking a seizure, which upsets Dominic.

Later, April and Dominic confront Ellie. Ellie says April doesn’t have a monopoly on writing a memoir on cancer. Ellie also seems interested in Dominic, so April convinces him to distract her, so she can get to the publishing contact before Ellie. When Dominic leaves to find Ellie, April runs into Raquel, who has connections to a top publisher named Gwen and agrees to introduce her.

Simultaneously, Beth panics over finishing Brenna’s dress and Josh tries to reassure her leaving Jacqueline’s company wasn’t a mistake. The pair get into a misunderstanding, prompting Josh to leave Beth’s apartment for the night.

Back at the publishing event, Raquel introduces April to Gwen and the meeting seems to be going well until Gwen confuses April’s book for Ellie’s. Raquel steps in and promises to help April by getting a copy of what she’s done so far to Gwen.

Later, Brenna and Finn prepare to head to the dance and take photos at the Carver house.

April catches up with Danny. She admits the publishing event didn’t go how she thought it would and finds it strange that Raquel agreed to help her, given their rocky past. Danny tells her times are tough at The Post and everything is less cutthroat. He also lets slip to April that Dominic’s still in love with her.

Sara helps April move into Beth’s apartment and April shares Danny’s revelation with her. Sara advises April not to do anything hasty. April thinks things are complicated and it’s too soon to start seeing someone after Leo’s death, though she also want Dominic to wait for her. Sara encourages her to listen to her heart.

Later, Sara has second thoughts about doing the 10K with William. A lot’s been happening lately and Sara’s stressed. William says it can be great motivation to use for the race, especially parenting troubles. When Sara urges William to ease up on Beth for what she did to Gabe, William confesses he’s upset, because he found out his ex is getting married again. Hearing this, Sara re-approaches the race with a more open mind.

Brenna and Finn hang out at her friends’ after party, but things are awkward, because Finn can’t do normal teenage things like drink alcohol due to his health.

April and Beth watch television at home when Calvin unexpectedly shows. Raquel leaked an excerpt of April’s book to The Post, which limits its exclusivity. April is a little on edge, but hopes everything will be okay given this information.

Brenna and Finn distance themselves from the rest of the party and venture into one of the upstairs’ bedrooms. Brenna understands that Finn has to prioritize his health first and tells him he shouldn’t feel bad. Finn is frustrated that he and Brenna can’t do normal couple things like kiss without his mask on and have sex, but they risk it anyway.

April brings Dominic coffee and apologizes for leaving him with Ellie at the publishing event. Dominic tells April not to worry about it; Ellie wound up ditching him to talk to the A&E editor from The Sentinel, so it wasn’t all that bad. In addition, Dominic confesses he’s planning to sell his house as is and is still contemplating moving. April doesn’t call him out on his feelings for her.

Later, April and Brenna support their mother at her 10K and April returns home to an unexpected surprise from Beth. Beth has been feeling moody and sick a lot lately, so she took a pregnancy test; it came back positive. April promises to be there for Beth and help her figure things out. A knock at the door prevents any further conversation, however.

When April goes to see who’s there, it’s Calvin. The publishers loved the excerpt Raquel had published in The Post; she’s getting a book deal. April is excited, though it quickly fades once she learns that Natalie’s mother, Olivia is having a book published under the same title, “Chasing Life.”

End of episode.
