Oyelowo has taken on the iconic role of James Bond through his voicing of the character in the audio book for Trigger Mortis, which is the latest Bond novel. It was through this experience that Oyelowo started to think more about African American actors taking on these styles of roles, New York Daily News reported.

“I don’t fantasize about playing Bond, but I fantasize about a world in which someone like me or like Idris Elba has the opportunity to play that kind of role,” said Oyelowo. "I think that the great thing about all of this conversation is that it’s very clear that the audience is speaking to our industry and those with greenlight ability and content creators and writers and producers that they want to see someone like Idris Elba, who is a perfect leading man, as a lead."

Idris Elba as spoken openly about the famous role and experienced his interest in playing Bond.

"I just don’t want to be called the first black James Bond. Do you understand what I’m saying? Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue-eyed James Bond. So if I played him, I don’t want to be called the black James Bond,” Elba explained during an Reddit AMA.
