This weekend was a big weekend for all Doctor Who fans. Season 9 of premiered Saturday night and if you missed it, you definitely missed out. As a new Doctor Who fan I super excited to see the premiere. I’m sure like all the other fans the anticipation was horrible. I have watched every episode from the previous seasons on Netflix (more than twice) so I was ready for the return of the Doctor and his beloved partner Clara. I was not disappointed at all during the entire episode.
So lets jump right in! So the beginning was pretty typical. We were brought into a war with an enemy we haven't encountered before. And man were they super creepy. Hands reaching out the ground with an eye in the middle is pretty gross but expected in the Doctor Who world. What I didn't see coming was our doctor almost saving the creator of out worse enemy, Davros. Well, Davros as a child. Who would have thought he started off as a young frightened little boy. After the doctor realized who he was about to save it appears that he leaves abruptly leaving the boy to die but obviously its never what it seems with the series.
Now we fast forward to what I am going to assume is present day. Clara is in her class room teaching her class when Clara super senses notice that an airplane is frozen in the air outside. She then goes to Unit to help figure out whats happening. And of course to ultimately call the Doctor for his help saving the world again. Once all the variables are discussed Clara realizes its a message and that someone wants to get their attention. They Boom! Surprise number two Missy is still alive. Who would've thought‘The Master’ survived death again. Needless to say they agree on a rendezvous place where Clara meets up with Missy to see what exactly is going on. After they exchange some not so nice words and a couple of officers die due to Missy wanting everyone to know that she has not turned good, Missy shares her concern of the Doctor having received the Time Lords will. Which was sent to Missy the day before the Doctor is suppose to die... again. Clara and Missy work together to locate the Doctor who has been MIA. When the teleport to him they find him having a ‘Going Away Party’ if thats what you want o call it.
During this time this ugly villain is also trying o locate the Doctor in an attempt to take him to Davros who is in fact dying. The villain finds all three of them at this party the Doctor is throwing and ends up taking all of the time to Skaro. The home of the Daleks. Doctor Who is separated from Clara and Missy and taken to Davros who has sent the message that he remembers. Im sure he's referring to the day the Doctor left him to die...supposedly. Clara and Missy breakout and are captured by the Daleks while Davros and Doctor Who look on. There allot of back and forth between everybody before the Daleks kill Missy who tried to joined their side. I wouldn't be surprised if she survives again.. maybe. Now the Doctor is framing out begging for Davros to save Clara, but his only response is ‘I do not control the Daleks, I only created them’. Clara realizes whats about to happen, tries to run and is then killed. Shocker! Not really, BUT dont fret I’m sure the Doctor will get our precious Clara back alive and well in the next episode.
All in all if you did not watch Saturday night you should look into catching the rerun because the season has started with a boom! Per usual the preview for the next episode was just as exciting as the first episode. Doctor Who may have to make a huge decision in order to save Clara. A decision that as a fan we all know is going to be a hard one. I would say the only down side to it is I can't just keep going through the episodes like I do on Netflix. I actually have to practice patience which in not my favorite thing. Please believe I will be watching Next Saturday night at 9pm on BBC America to see how the plot unravels. Make sure you join me!
