The Miss Universe Organization is now wholly owned by the Trump Organization. Billionaire Donald Trump announced today that he has settled his lawsuit with NBCUniversal and has purchased their portion of the pageant.
Trump announced the deal on Twitter, adding, “Now own 100% -- stay tuned!”
NBC became a target for Trump insults after the network and Univision both decided not to air the Miss USA pageant in July because of Trump’s insulting comments about Mexican immigrants when he announced his plans to run for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. Trump then filed a $500 million lawsuit against Univision and threatened to do the same to NBC.
“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” NBC said when it decided not to air Miss USA. “Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.”
The Miss USA pageant ended up airing on the obscure ReelzChannel, although the network’s CEO said it was a one-time thing. Therefore, Trump will have to find a new network for next year’s event.
