Gabrielle Union admits she’s been trying to get pregnant with her first child with husband Dwyane Wade to no success thus far.

The 42-year-old actress also described choosing career over starting a family as a “scarlet letter” for women.

"So far, it has not happened for us,” she told Redbook of using IVF to try for a baby. “A lot of my friends deal with this.”

The Being Mary Jane star went on to say, “There's a certain amount of shame that is placed on women who have perhaps chosen a career over starting a family younger. The penance for being a career woman is barrenness.”

Union also talked about her 9-year age difference with her NBA star husband, saying it “balances out” because she’s a “young 42” and he’s an “old 33.”

For now, Union is a happy stepmother of Wade’s three children but she believes that there’s some discrimination of mothers in the workplace.

"As much as there are strides being made -- you get pregnant, your career takes a hit,” she said. “You can't have a bad day. Don't you dare cry at work. Don't raise your voice. Especially if you're a black woman in corporate America -- now you're 'the angry black woman.'"
