Actor George Takei did not mince words when he spoke up in regards to the release of Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who refused to hand out marriage licenses to gay couples on religious grounds.
On his Facebook page, Takei shared a video of Davis leaving the prison where she was held on contempt charges. He wrote, “Well this is a bit of a circus. So let us be clear: This woman is no hero to be celebrated.”
Takei continued his discussion by adding that she had not done her proper job in upholding the oath she had made toward the Constitution. He continued that Davis was “entitled to hold her religious beliefs, but not to impose those beliefs on others.”
He made mention of what would happen if she had denied a license to an interracial couple, which actually was not allowed decades ago. Takei ended his statement by saying “In our society, we obey civil laws, not religious ones. To suggest otherwise is, simply put, entirely un-American.”
Many people commented on the post and it has over 350,000 likes.
