Johnny Depp was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to chat about Black Mass, his new film. But there was one topic that Kimmel just couldn’t avoid: Depp’s dog drama in Australia.

Depp playfully joked about it while in Venice last week, sarcastically saying that he “killed my dogs and ate them under direct orders.” But while on JKL, he talked about the incident seriously.

The scandal arose earlier this year when Australian government official Barnaby Joyce threatened to have Depp and Amber Heard’s two Yorkshire Terriers euthanized because the celebrity couple didn’t have them checked through customs.

“This sort of weird, sweaty ... gut man ... decided that ... two five-, six-inch teacup Yorkshire terriers would harm the country in some way,” Depp told Kimmel, notes ABC News. “He has a point. Especially when you consider Australia has the most poisonous creatures on Earth.”

Kimmel mentioned that Joyce said that Heard could be jailed because of the dogs.

“If they did that, I'd just fly to Australia to assault that man, so that I could go to jail [instead],” Depp said.

“Yeah right! Jack Sparrow's not gonna stand by and let this happen,” Kimmel said.

While on JKL, Depp also talked about playing Whitey Bulger and actually watching Black Mass. The film hits theaters on Sept. 18.
