Justin Bieber gave a very well received performance of his songs “Were Are U Now” and “What Do You Mean?” at the MTV Video Music Awards last weekend, but the fact that he broke down into tears afterwards might’ve overshadowed it. Bieber explained what caused the breakdown to Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show on Wednesday.

Bieber was asked why he cried and he admitted that there were a few reasons, but mostly it was because he was so overwhelmed.
“Last time I was at an awards show, I was booed,” he said.
He also explained he was “disappointed” in himself for missing “some cues” but mostly he was overcome with emotion because he wasn’t “expecting them to support me in the way they did.”
“I think it's just like I've worked so hard at this album, I've worked so hard at just becoming the man I want to become, and then stepping into situations, you just can't help but feel judged," he continued.
Bieber has been hard at work repairing his bad boy image and this performance was just the beginning of that.
He also performed “What Do You Mean” and sang “Where Are U Now” as a country song during the Tonight Show.
