Miss Piggy and Kermit announced their split after decades together earlier this summer and while most recognized how different they are, it was still a shock.
They confirmed the split at the Television Critics Association press tour while promoting their Muppets reboot in August.
In an essay for People, Miss Piggy now shares the real reason they’re no longer together. It comes down to basic differences between the two; with Miss Piggy admitting they’re simply “better off apart.”
“I wanted to be trending on all social media platforms. He wanted to ‘blend in with so many other ordinary things,'" she wrote. "I wanted to go out and soak in the A-list nightlife. He wanted to stay home and soak in a tub of tepid swamp water. I wanted to live like a star. He wanted to live like a frog. I wanted Hollywood. He wanted vines.”
She can also remember the moment she realized it was over, which was this past June. While she was at the end of her acceptance speech for the Sackler Center First Award at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum, she remembered to get her parking ticket validated.
“That was it! Validation!” she wrote. “I'm a strong woman and I need validation! No strong woman – regardless of species – should go through life in a co-dependent relationship with a hard-headed man—amphibian or otherwise.”
