Who needs to watch television when you can tweet about it? Despite Miley Cyrus hosting the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night, viewership was down even as it aired on 10 different Viacom stations.

The awards show grabbed 9.8 million viewers, a 5 percent drop from the 2014 show, notes Entertainment Weekly. The only good news is that it slowed the ratings decrease the show has been experiencing recently. The 2014 show was down 18 percent from 2013.

Despite the lack of viewers, the show was a big hit with Twitter users, the social network said. It drew over 47 million tweets globally, with 21.4 million in the U.S. alone.

Of course, the most-tweeted about moment was Kanye West’s speech, when he announced plans to run for the White House in 2020. MTV’s tweet of the speech was retweeted 12,800 times and favorited 18,000 times. West received the 2015 Video Vanguard Award.
