Coach Fox will have to retire, at least from broadcast. NBC is not moving forward with plans to revive the 1990s sitcom Coach, which starred Craig T. Nelson.

The project came completely out of left field when it was announced in March that NBC gave the project a 13-episode order. In May, NBC said that it would hold back the show for midseason.

But now it has been cancelled, reports Variety. Coach was already getting mixed reviews among NBC brass, even though NBC chief Bob Greenblatt defended the idea at the Television Critics Association Press Tour this summer.

All hope for the Coach fans out there - wherever you are - is not completely lost though. Deadline is reporting that Universal TV, which produced the show, is shopping it to other platforms.

The revived Coach only filmed one episode, despite the 13-episode order. Deadline reports that Nelson is being paid for all 13 episodes, while everyone else is only being paid for the one episode that was produced.

The original Coach series ran from 1989 to 1997 and earned Nelson an Emmy in 1992.
