NBC News finally confirmed the shuffle going on at MSNBC that has been rumored for weeks. The network also promoted Kate Snow to permanent anchor of NBC Nightly News on Sundays.
There have been reports for weeks that NBC News was going to make significant changes at MSNBC after it cancelled many of its low-rated daytime shows. The network confirmed many of the expected changes in a memo today.
Snow will anchor MSNBC’s afternoon broadcasts from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. That will be followed by Chuck Todd’s daily edition of Meet The Press starting on Monday, Sept. 28. However, the network still hasn’t picked a replacement for Al Sharpton’s 6 p.m. show. Sharpton is moving to Sundays.
Brian Williams will officially be back on Tuesday, Sept. 22 to read breaking news as it comes on. He will be part of the coverage of Pope Francis' visit to the U.S.
Snow, who has filled in for anchors on Nightly News and Today, will start her tenure as Sunday Nightly News anchor on Oct. 4. She has been at NBC News since 2010 and previously worked at ABC News and CNN.
“Kate is a compassionate storyteller who approaches every assignment with equal parts determination and heart,” Deborah Turness, President of NBC News, said in a memo. “Her broad range as a journalist, skill as an anchor, and familiarity with our audience is sure to lead Nightly to continued success on Sundays.”
