After an extremely long wait for new episodes, the hit sci-fi anthology show Black Mirror has reportedly been picked up by Netflix for a third season.

According to The Radio Times, Netflix has made a deal with creator Charlie Brooker's production company House of Tomorrow to make multiple new episodes of the show for the streaming service.

The original run of Black Mirror episodes aired on Channel 4 in the UK, and it's not totally clear yet how they factor into this deal. The Radio Times notes that Channel 4 will likely still want to be the first broadcaster of Black Mirror in the UK, so it's possible the new episodes will air on Channel 4 and then come to Netflix in the U.S. That type of thing isn't unprecedented, as the Netflix original Derek first aired on Channel 4. Peaky Blinders also airs on BBC Two, but then Netflix has exclusive distribution rights in the United States. Both shows are still marketed as Netflix series, so that would make sense for Black Mirror.

Either way, the fact that new episodes of Black Mirror are on the way in any form is pretty exciting. The sci-fi series, which tells dark, technology driven stories and has been hailed as a modern day Twilight Zone, has aired six episodes and a Christmas special so far. The show has done very well in the UK, and it gained a much greater following when it was added to Netflix late last year. Although the streaming service does not release its numbers, the show must have been huge for Netflix in order to justify this deal.

Neither Netflix nor Channel 4 has officially commented on the news at this time.

The first two seasons of Black Mirror are now available on Netflix. The most recent episode was a Christmas special starring Jon Hamm, although that episode is not yet available for streaming in the U.S.
