The Muppets finally return to television this Tuesday on ABC, but not everyone is excited for their big night. One Million Moms is organizing a boycott against the new show for being too adult.
The group, which was created by the non-profit American Family Association, posted this announcement to their followers, saying that The Muppets is far too adult-oriented for kids to watch.
"Many parents unknowingly will let their children watch an episode only to find out its perverted nature too late, unless they are alerted ahead of time," the statement reads. "1MM and others need to get the word out to families to avoid this program at all costs."
The page includes the contact information for ABC, urging supporters to call and ask the network to pull the show.
It's true that the new ABC series The Muppets hopes to be a bit more adult oriented, as the network has been playing up in all of the promotional advertising. Some parents might not want to let their children watch the show, but ABC has definitely made it quite clear what they're in for based on all of the previews. One even features Kermit saying, "It's sort of an adult Muppet show."
This isn't the first time One Million Moms has expressed outrage over a new TV series. In 2013, they boycotted the NBC series The New Normal because it featured a gay couple. They also organized an unsuccessful boycott against JC Penny for having Ellen Degeneres as their spokesperson.
The Muppets premieres on ABC at 8:00 EST on September 22. The network has given it a rating of TV-PG.
