Even though the character’s most recent film outing was a major disappointment, Paramount is still hoping to do more with Jack Ryan, the famous character created by the late Tom Clancy. The studio is hoping to use the character in a TV series.d
The news was first reported by Deadline, which notes that the project was created by Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Graham Roland (Fringe). Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Skydance Media and Paramount Television will produce. The potential series doesn’t have a home, but several networks are interested.
The show won’t be a straight adaptation of Clancy’s novels, but will instead find Jack Ryan as a member of the modern CIA. The novels will still be used for story ideas and it will be the first time Jack Ryan will be on the small screen.
The executive producers are Roland, Cuse, Lindsey Springer of Carlton Cuse Productions, Bay and Brad Fuller and Andrew Form of Platinum Dunes.
Jack Ryan has been played on the big screen by Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford. Chris Pine starred as the character in last year’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, but that film flopped, opening to just $15.4 million. It went on to make $50.5 million in the U.S. and $84.9 million overseas.
