Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane spoke publicly about the sexual assault investigation against him for the first time Thursday.

Kane was accused back in August and prosecutors are preparing to present the case to a grand jury later this month to determine whether charges will be brought forth.

Sports Illustrated reported that Kane only answered hockey questions per the Blackhawks request and tried to avoid questions relating to the case although he did apologize for the distraction it has caused his family and team.

Kane was allowed to report to training camp but still faces possible suspension by the Blackhawks organization pending the outcome of the investigation. The NHL has yet to conduct an internal investigation, a decision which has been met with some criticism

According to reports by ESPN Kane declared he did nothing wrong and is expecting to be absolved of any wrongdoing.

Prior to today’s press conference, Kane has remained out of sight since the accusations broke. Teammates and coaches also avoided answering questions pertaining to the situation. The Blackhawks season begins Oct. 7.
