Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who injured his right hand during a fireworks accident on July 4, has been working hard lately to prove that he can still play. But photos published today show just how bad his hand looks.

The New York Daily News obtained photos of JPP, 26, getting out of his car. They reveal that his right index finger was completely amputated. He still has bandages around his thumb and middle finger. It does appear that he is missing part of his thumb.

Pierre-Paul only recently began using social media, posting a video of himself working out on Instagram this week. “God can turn any situation around for the better. Your hard times will lead to the best times of your life. Don't believe the hype ... Be back soon!” he wrote.

He also began tweeting, writing today, “I can't think of the last time my index finger got me a sack.”

Pierre-Paul has played with the New York Giants and the team isn’t sure when he can return. He is currently unsigned and the Giants have to sign him by Nov. 17 or he’ll become a free agent for the 2016 season.

He is a two-time Pro-Bowler and won Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants.
