This episode started off with a bang. The designers divided amongst themselves into two teams: the Guys and Merline vs. the Girls. The surprising part was no one picked Ashley, who has already won two challenges this season.
The designers played a game of capture the flag paintball style to get the fabric that will be used for the challenge. The girls retrieved an array of purples, oranges, and pinks. The boys grabbed yellow, blue, and green fabric. The guys instantly regretted not picking Ashely because she is a boss with a paintball gun.
Here’s the twist: the suits that the designers were wearing is really the fabric they will work with to create their looks. The fabric they retrieved during the game can only be used as supplemental fabric. Each team will create a six look mini collection for this challenge. The designers were given additional white fabric, paintballs and paint grenades for their looks.
The Guys & Merline team worked well together while the Girl team struggled to work cohesively.
As part of sponsoring this challenge, Sally Beauty did nail consultation to add nail art to the designers’ looks.
Goys & Merline:
The collection uses the fabric that the team created a cohesive textile: Jackson Pollock style print using shades of blue with hints of yellow. The collection is a modern twist on 1950s fashion. The entire collection has matching dark blue high heel shoes.
Merline created a short sleeve dress dress that goes high to low from the left to the right.
Swapnil created a fitted strapless bodice with a modern twist on a 1950s puffy skirt, which is the wow factor of the look. However, the hem on the skirt is quite uneven.
Joseph created a medium blue dress and matching short sleeve jacket that has splotches of yellow. The sleeves from a paintball jumpsuit, splattered with dark blue paint, is tied around the waist as a belt with a bow.
Jake created capri pants with a high waist line, and a sleeveless top with a collar that has a cape attached.
Edmond created a stunning halter evening gown.
Blake created a cocktail dress with an open back that is white at the top with blue dye and paint splatters at the bottom of the dress.
Girls:
The girls created a collection that uses (Barney) purple and pink fabric in a addition to the purple and pink paintball fabric, which looked like Easter Egg tie-dye gone wrong.
Candice created a business attire look with a plum pencil skirt and fitted lilac halter top that has the plum folded into it.
Amanda created a dramatic dress with a high/low skirt that had great flow on the runway. Her look used the most of the Easter Egg tie-dye fabric.
Ashely created a knee length purple skirt and a splotchy pink pleated vest with top.
Kelly created a floor length mermaid skirt and horrendous top that is made up of a bandeau with the collar from the paintball suit.
Lindsey created yet another voluminous, shapeless coat, with capri pants and tank top underneath.
Laurie created an unoriginal lilac collates shorts and a Barney purple vest crop top.
