Ricky Gervais was onstage at the Emmys to present the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, but he took the moment as an opportunity to award himself an Emmy instead.
Gervais joked that people scrolling through social media or the internet will only see an image of him onstage holding the award, assuming he was the one who won it.
He joked “no one remembers who wins anyway,” MailOnline reports.
So along with his fake Emmy award, he gave out a fake cry as well. "Where's the Emmy girl? Can I get an Emmy?” he asked. “So take a picture of that,” he said while waving the statue in the air.
Gervais actually was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Mini-series or Movie for Derek, but lost to Olive Kitteridge’s Richard Jenkins.
The Emmy really went to Tony Hale from HBO’s Veep. Check out the winner’s list here.
