The Hollywood Reporter announced that the current average ticket costs $8.25 for the third quarter but is on pace to surpass the record that was set in 2014. The $8.25 average is down from the second quarter, which peaked at $8.61. The drop makes sense since the summer blockbuster season is ending and Oscar season is upon us.
Last week Cinema Blend commented on how movie theaters should enjoy the current boom because there is a predicted drought to take place in 2016. This has been a stacked year for movies with high demand, with films like Star Wars, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mockingjay Part 2 and Spectre released or soon to be released this year, the money has been plenty to go around.
Morgan Stanley predicts that the overall income could drop by 5 percent in 2016. The lineup for next year is just not as exciting as it was this year. There are a fair amount of films to look out for but it will all come down to audiences and how they want to spend their money. For now, it is doubtful that film studios or movie theaters will be complaining.
