The upcoming fourth season of The CW’s Beauty and the Beast will be the show’s last. The network said today that the show will be coming to an end.
Loosely inspired by the 1987-1990 CBS show of the same name, the show starred Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan. The show was created by Sherri Cooper-Landsman and Jennifer Levin.
As Variety points out, the show never really found a wide audience, averaging just 1.6 million viewers and a 0.6 18-49 rating for its second season, which aired during the regular 2012-2013 TV season. Season 3, which didn’t start until June, only averaged 879,000 viewers, notes The Hollywood Reporter.
Production on the show’s final 13 episodes will wrap next month. The CW hasn’t set a premiere date, but it’s likely to air during next summer.
The CW’s 2015-2016 TV season only features three new shows. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend debuted last night and Containment and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow are being held back for midseason.
