Blake Shelton is already preparing himself for being the butt of jokes, along with ex-wife Miranda Lambert, at the upcoming Country Music Awards.
On Late Night With Seth Meyers, he admitted the CMAs will be “awkward” this year, his first show since splitting from Lambert.
“There’s gotta be one about me and Miranda,” he said about the jokes. “[Host] Brad Paisley is not doing his job if he doesn’t look down there and go ‘Ha ha!’ You have to address the elephant in the room."
He added, "We’ve had the conversations like, ‘Okay, dude. I’ll sit there and let you kick me in the face a few times.’ I know it’s coming.”
According to Us Weekly, this will be Shelton and Lambert’s first red carpet appearance apart in eight years. They’ve been attending country’s biggest night together since 2007.
Shelton went on to say everyone who’s in the country music industry is like “family,” saying, “Everybody there is friends.”
The Voice judge and Lambert surprised the world when they announced their split in July after four years of marriage. They dated for six years before getting engaged.
The CMAs will air on Nov. 4.
