Bradley Cooper is taking former co-star Jennifer Lawrence's criticisms of the gender pay gap in Hollywood to heart and is now vowing to work with his female co-stars when negotiating contracts for upcoming films.
Cooper told Reuters, "I don't know where it's changing otherwise but that's something that I could do...Usually you don't talk about the financial stuff, you have people. But you know what? It's time to start doing that."
Lawrence penned an op/ed recently, blaming herself for making less than her male counterparts and referring to herself as a "failed negotiator." In the piece, she mentioned Cooper by name as the two have starred in several films together including Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.
Cooper was also upset when he learned American Hustle co-star Amy Adams made significantly less on the film than the male leads stating, "She worked everyday on that movie and got paid nothing. It's really horrible actually, it's almost embarrassing," further adding that Adams "should have been paid more than everybody."
Instead of standing idly by, the 40-year-old actor is attempting to do his part in addressing this issue. He went on to tell Reuters that before any film he's working on goes into production, he's teaming up with his female counterparts to negotiate salaries.
Other actresses have started speaking up since the release of Lawrence's letter as well, including Rooney Mara and Jessica Chastain.
