Cameron Crowe and J.J. Abrams have teamed up for Roadies, an upcoming comedy, and the show has received a series pickup from Showtime. The scripted comedy will provide a backstage look into a rock 'n' roll band.

Crowe is set to write, direct and produce the show, which is set to be an hour-long comedy, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Crowe has an extensive background in music, creating the documentary Pearl Jam Twenty, based upon the rock 'n' roll group Pearl Jam. He also won an Oscar for Almost Famous, which was based on his own life experiences writing for Rolling Stone magazine.

Kelly Curtis, Pearl Jam's manager, will also be a co-producer on the show and will be a music supervisor. Curtis and Crowe have been longtime collaborators.

Crowe opened up about why he was attracted to this project. "I’ve long wanted to work with J.J. and Winnie, and coming together to tell these stories has been beyond a blast. Showtime has a great track record with music-based projects, and they’ve been wonderful partners. The actors are all so passionate about music too, and the whole show has the feeling of stories and music shared between friends. We can’t wait to bring it all to life in 2016," explained the Almost Famous director.

J.J. Abrams is on board to produce along with Bryan Burck who worked with him on Lost.

The show is expected to air in 2016.
